Steven Bauer, M.D is a respected family medicine doctor based in Charlotte, North Carolina. He established his practice in the Tar Heel State in 2007 and will soon celebrate two decades as an independent primary care provider. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he and his team at Ballantyne Medical Associates were among the first outpatient offices in the area to begin treating patients with REGEN-COV monoclonal antibodies.

He also played a crucial role in two critical FDA clinical trials related to COVID-19 therapeutics and has contributed to numerous other FDA studies over the years. His success extends beyond pandemic-related treatments, as he has made significant strides in female bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, testosterone replacement therapy for both men and women, outpatient opioid use disorder detoxification, and the treatment and preservation of vascular endothelium.

Current Role & Duties

He is the founder and managing partner of Ballantyne Medical Associates, a comprehensive primary care medical office in Charlotte. Since its opening in March 2007, the practice has expanded its services, offering cutting-edge aesthetic laser treatments, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, and nutritional counseling, among many others. Dr. Bauer is deeply committed to ensuring his patients' well-being through a holistic treatment approach, working closely with each individual to achieve their personal health goals.

The team at Ballantyne Medical Associates is made up of over twenty professionals. They strive to provide patient education, making sure every individual understands their medical needs clearly and can make informed decisions about their healthcare.

Academic Background

He began his academic journey in pre-med studies at North Carolina State University. He later earned his medical degree from the New York Institute of Technology, home to the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following graduation, he completed his medical residency at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in New York, where he was elected Chief Resident. His early career involved practicing for a decade in Long Island, where he conducted teaching rounds for medical students, interns, and residents while also working as a Department of Health HIV disease specialist. In addition to his hospital work, he managed a busy private practice during this time.

To stay current in the evolving field of anti-aging medicine, Steven Bauer, M.D actively participates in training with the Metabolic Medicine Institute at the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. The institute provides certification and training for physicians in anti-aging and regenerative medicine.

In addition, he is the lead physician for the 10-13 Club of Charlotte, an organization that serves hundreds of active and retired law enforcement officers.

Beyond his work in family medicine, he is certified by Aesthetic Consulting & Training to administer Botox cosmetic injections. He is also certified by Cynosure, a Westford, Massachusetts-based medical treatment company, to use their ICON, Pellefirm, Pelleve, PicoSure, and SculpSure laser systems.

Previously, he earned a Federal X-number and a DW-100 waiver from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, enabling him to detox, treat, and monitor patients affected by the ongoing opioid epidemic using buprenorphine/naloxone.

Personal Life & Interests

Bauer was born in Sleepy Hollow, New York. After completing his education, he remained in New York, practicing there for nearly a decade before relocating to North Carolina. During his time in New York, he worked closely with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services as an HIV specialist, treating patients and teaching medical students, interns, and residents in both outpatient and inpatient hospital settings.

He is also passionate about giving back. He has volunteered extensively throughout his career, providing free medical teaching to trainee medical students, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners in various settings, including his private practice, county clinics, and teaching hospitals.

He currently resides in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, with his wife Barbara, an RN, and their two children. The family loves food, wine, travel, and spending time in nature, whether in the mountains or by the ocean. They also enjoy spending time with close friends and family, along with their two Great Dane dogs.
